Breathing Life Back Into Blogging
Remember the days before pro-blogging, monetization, the so-called “rules” of blogging, and SEO? Bloggers were just really interesting people who enjoyed sharing their thoughts and experiences. Blogs were a great place for kicking back and conversation.
I’ve been feeling really nostalgic about that kind of blogging ever since I decided that I would take another stab at reviving my blog. over the past decade or so, I’ve just not had the motivation to blog as frequently as I used to do back in the days when Livejournal was the place to be.
When I sat down and tried to figure out why, I realized that it’s because a great deal of my enjoyment from blogging was due to reading other folks’ blogs and all the awesome chit-chat that happened back and forth. I realized that I miss that and had become demotivated and discouraged by all the cookie-cutter content and promotional drivel that has replaced the blogging of old.
The other day, I happened to mention this very problem to my dear friend (who I first met online back in those Livejournal days), Alexandra Wolfe, and what do you know? We were of the same mind. Around the same time, I happened across Shaun Duke’s tweet about The Blog Challenge Project:
It finally dawned on me that I wasn’t the only one thinking that good blogs to interact with were hard to find, but they are out there somewhere. It’s just hard to find them among all the cookie-cutter drivel.
Alex tweeted, asking fellow bloggers who are of the same mind to reach out:
The Blog Challenge Project also has a Discord server, so those who request to join that collective via, Shaun’s blog are able to become a part of a friendly community of bloggers.
I wanted to create a list of these blogs, to keep track of them. While trying to figure out how I would go about keeping track, I thought it would be nice to have a link directory of these blogs.
I created Chatty Blogs just for that purpose. All bloggers who want to foster real engagement on their blogs are welcome. I’ll be adding some of the blogs that I already have bookmarked, so if your blog is already listed in the directory, you can simply claim it by registering for an account on the site and Claim a Listing.
The site is brand new and the directory is in its fledgling stages, but I will be adding new blog links on a daily basis and I hope that you will too.
